FAQ

Frequently asked

What readers most often ask — about BUCi itself, and how to use it.

01

About BUCi

What is BUCi?

BUCi is a curated atlas of global divination traditions. We launch with three systems — Persian Hafez · Fal-e Hafez, Maya Tzolkin sacred calendar, Norse Rune (Elder Futhark). We don't tell fortunes. We gather every way humanity has answered fate and present it to you with the care of a museum.

Is this superstition?

No. BUCi is cultural research, not prediction. Our stance: every divination tradition is, at heart, a thinking tool — when you're stuck in a problem, it forces you to look at yourself through a different linguistic system. Hafez uses 14th-century Persian verse, Tzolkin uses Maya time, Rune uses Norse symbols. They don't tell you 'what will happen' but they show you 'what is happening'. Jung called this 'synchronicity'.

Who runs BUCi?

BUCi's curator is Yuanci (远辞) — a researcher of divination cultures. Over the past ten years Yuanci has interviewed Hafez manuscript keepers in Shiraz, K'iche' Maya day-keepers in Momostenango (Guatemala), and Norse rune scholars in Uppsala. BUCi is a curated archive, not a service.

Why these three civilizations?

They represent the three basic grammars of divination — Hafez is 'text-type' (a poem answers you), Tzolkin is 'time-type' (what day is today), Rune is 'symbol-type' (casting and combination). Three ways to answer fate, three ways to say 'now' over again. I Ching, Lenormand, Ifá, Geomancy will follow.

About the reading

Is the reading AI-generated?

Yes. Each report is produced in real time by Claude Sonnet — but the prompts are written and tuned by Yuanci, drawing on Sufi poetics, K'iche' day-keeper traditions, and Elder Futhark scholarship. AI is the tool; the cultural depth is human. We don't write 'Mercury is in retrograde, be careful.'

If I ask the same question at different times, do I get the same answer?

The artifact selection itself is cryptographically random — every draw is new. But traditionally, the same question should not be re-asked in a short window. This isn't a technical limit, it's ritual discipline: you've already received your response. Re-asking only thins it out.

Can I share my reading?

Yes. Every reading gets a shareable permalink (with reading_id + cryptographic seed). When a friend opens your link, they see the exact same reading — not another random draw. This makes a reading something that can flow through daily conversation, not a private secret.

Why does the reading take 30–90 seconds?

Because the AI is composing carefully. Each interpretation is 2,500–3,000 words, generated word-by-word, based on the source text, cultural context, and your specific question. We are adding streaming output so the text appears as it's written.

About content & attitude

Can I ask about love / health / career?

Yes. BUCi doesn't limit the domain. But one boundary: BUCi does not replace doctors, lawyers, or therapists. For anything involving physical health, legal decisions, or major financial moves, treat BUCi as a 'see-yourself-from-another-angle' tool, not a substitute for professional advice. The disclaimer at the bottom of every page is not legal hand-waving — it's literal truth.

Will BUCi make decisions for me?

No. BUCi rephrases your situation in a different language. When Hafez answers your job question with 14th-century Persian poetry, you're forced from 'should I take this' to 'what is this poem about' — and that small gap is where real thinking happens. The decision is always yours.

I don't believe in divination, I'm just curious about the culture — am I welcome?

Very welcome. This is in fact one of BUCi's primary reader profiles. Every reading cites its source text. You can treat each reading as a 200-word condensed introduction to Sufi poetics / Maya calendrics / Norse runelore. You can also skip casting entirely and enter through the Cultural Archive at /journal — 22 deep essays await.

About operations & future

Is BUCi one person? If you disappear, do my readings survive?

BUCi is currently run mainly by Yuanci, with light outsourcing (visual, copy editing). This is a small project — but in exchange, every reading is curated, not templated. On data: the database is backed up automatically every day (30 daily snapshots retained). Even if the server fails, your readings can be restored. If BUCi ever truly shuts down, we will give six months' notice and offer full reading export (JSON + PDF).

What AI model do you use? If you change the prompt, will my old readings change?

Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.6, chosen for its stability on long cultural interpretation. Prompts will iterate, but — every historical reading is stored as full text in the database. We do not regenerate. The Hafez ghazal you cast six months ago will read exactly the same today. We preserve the output, not just the seed.

Will the newsletter contain ads?

No. Every issue is written by Yuanci (one monthly cultural essay + seasonal reminders + one free Hafez reading). BUCi's income comes from user payments (per-reading / cross-cultural / annual flagship), not advertising. So the newsletter is always BUCi's own words.

Can I delete my account and all my readings?

Yes, in line with GDPR and similar laws. Email hello@bucitext.bond; we respond within 7 days with full deletion of your user record, readings, sessions, magic links, and newsletter subscription. We also provide JSON export before deletion if requested.

Didn't find your question?

Write to Yuanci. A few reader letters each month are added to this page.
